AlphaScreen vibratory screening

AlphaScreen Round Vibrating Separator

A round vibrating separator is a screening machine that sorts dry materials by particle size and clears liquids of coarse solids: one to four round screens stacked in stainless steel frames, shaken by a vibratory motor underneath. Material fed at the centre spreads over the screen; what is too big leaves through a spout at the rim, and what passes goes on to the next screen or out at the bottom. Peltech builds the AlphaScreen range in Malaysia, from 30 to 72 inches, with direct or indirect drive, mainly for crude palm oil screening in palm oil mills and for food, chemical, ceramic and recycling plants. Our support and service teams in Johor, for Malaysia and Singapore, and in Jakarta, for Indonesia, look after every unit, with screens and spare parts in stock across the region.

1

Cover and Feed Inlet

A cover with a central inlet closes the top frame and brings the feed to the centre of the top screen. Mills screening crude palm oil often run with an open top and a feed pipe over the centre.

2

Screen Decks

Round screens of stainless steel mesh stretched to high, even tension on a screen ring. Each deck sits at the bottom of its frame and is clamped between two frames; the mesh is chosen for the cut you need.

3

Spacing Frames

Stainless steel frame rings that stack on top of each other. Each one carries a screen deck and its own spout, and the frames are joined with welds over a large surface, not end to end.

4

Oversize Spouts

A spout at screen level on the rim of every deck. What stays on that screen travels to the rim and leaves here; flexible sleeves connect the spouts to the plant chutes.

5

V-Clamp Rings

Solid clamp rings pull each joint between two frames tight. The AlphaScreen clamp has a 16 mm bolt and a 3 mm cap for day-to-day mill service.

6

Table Frame and Fines Spout

The bottom frame is a pan that collects everything that has passed the last screen and drains it to the lowest spout. It is bolted to the lower table, so it cannot turn.

7

Lower Table Weldment

A boiler-plate table that carries the frames above and the motor below; together they form the moving part of the machine.

8

Spring and Spool Assemblies

Stainless steel springs with nylon spools carry the moving part on the base, so that the vibration stays in the screens and does not reach the floor.

9

Motovibrator with Top and Bottom Weights

A vertical vibratory motor hangs under the lower table. An eccentric weight on each end of its shaft makes the motion; the two weights are set for each material.

10

Base Support

A round base rolled from boiler plate in one piece, with no welded joints, that stands on the floor and carries the springs.

How it works

Five Steps from Feed to Fractions

An AlphaScreen works continuously. A vibratory motor under the screens moves the whole stack of frames in a three-dimensional motion, horizontal, vertical and tangential at once, while the base stays still on its springs. Every particle gets many chances to meet an opening in the mesh, so the machine sorts fine material in a small space. The diagram and the five steps below follow the material through a two-deck separator.

Step 1 of 5: Feed at the CentreMaterial comes in through the inlet and lands at the centre of the top screen.

1

Feed at the Centre

Material comes in through the inlet in the cover, or from a pipe over an open top, and lands at the centre of the top screen.

2

Spread Across the Screen

The top weight on the motor swings the screens in a horizontal circle and the bottom weight tilts them: the material spreads outward over the whole screen in a spiral.

3

Oversize Out at the Rim

Particles too big for the mesh ride over the screen to the rim and leave through that deck's spout.

4

Through to the Next Deck

What passes the top screen falls onto the next, finer screen and is sorted again. Every extra deck gives one more fraction.

5

Fines Out at the Bottom

What passes the last screen collects in the table frame and runs out through the lowest spout.

Setting the motion. The weights on the top and bottom of the motor shaft are set at an angle to each other, the lead angle, and loaded with more or fewer plates. A small angle sends the material straight out to the rim: fast screening for material that passes easily. A larger angle gives longer spiral paths and more time on the screen for fine or difficult material, and the motion can also be set to gather material towards the centre. We set the weights for your material at commissioning.
Wet or dry. The same machine sorts dry powders and granules, and screens liquids and slurries. On crude palm oil the oil runs through the mesh, while fibre, nut fragments and debris ride to the rim and leave through the spout, drained of most of their oil.

Design and construction

Built for Palm Oil Mill Service in Malaysia

Frames and Spouts

Stainless steel frames and spouts, SS304 for every part in contact with the product, sand-blasted or polished. Top, spacing and table frames are joined with welds over the largest possible surface instead of end-to-end joins, so frames and spouts do not crack in mill service.

V-Clamp Rings

Clamp rings designed for day-to-day use in palm oil mills: a solid, reinforced 16 mm bolt and a 3 mm cap, where the usual separator clamp has a 9 mm bolt and a 2 mm cap.

Bolted Table Frame

The table frame is bolted to the lower table instead of clamped, so it stays secure without periodic re-tightening and cannot turn and crack its spout.

Motovibrator

European-made vibratory motor with heavy-duty bearings and class F insulation, chosen so that it does not overheat or need rewinding. Long-arm eccentric weights give more vibration power than disc-type weights.

Direct or Indirect Drive

Direct drive: the weights sit on the motovibrator itself. Indirect drive (ID models), for mills far from town: an off-the-shelf motor and standard bearings that can be replaced from local stock, so the line restarts without waiting for parts from the maker.

Base and Lower Table

The base support is rolled in one piece with no welded joints, for strength and an even transfer of the vibration; base and lower table weldment are built of boiler plate for a long life.

High-Tension Screens

Our own welding and tensioning give screens of consistently high, even mesh tension: more throughput, longer screen life and less downtime for screen changes.

One to Four Decks

From a single deck up to four decks in one machine, with an open top or a cover with a central feed inlet, for one to five fractions in one pass.

Tested Before Shipping

Every AlphaScreen is run-tested before delivery: motor temperature, speed, current and voltage, and vibration amplitude. Built under our ISO 9001 quality system.

Applications

What Round Vibrating Separators Are Used For

A round separator suits any dry material that must be split by particle size, and any liquid or slurry that must be cleared of coarse solids. Plants choose it when they want a compact machine that works continuously, sorts into several fractions at once, and lets the operator change a screen in minutes. These are the usual duties.

Crude Palm Oil Screening

Palm oil mills

The main duty of the AlphaScreen. Oil from the screw presses, diluted with hot water, is screened to take out fibre, nut fragments and debris before the sand trap and the clarifier. The oil runs through the mesh; the solids leave at the rim.

Palm Kernel and Other Seed Oils

Kernel crushing and crushing plants

Expeller oil from palm kernel, coconut and other seeds carries meal fines and foots. A separator takes out the coarse fines before the oil goes on to filtration.

Sugar Juice

Sugar mills

Mixed juice from the mills is screened to remove bagacillo, the fine bagasse fibre, before clarification.

Latex

Latex concentrate and rubber plants

Field latex and latex concentrate are screened to take out lumps, skin and coagulum.

Food Powders and Grains

Flour, sugar, starch, rice, tea, feed

Check screening and grading of flour, sugar, starch, rice and soya products, dairy powders, tea and animal feed: lumps, foreign matter and fines are taken out, or the product is split into grades.

Chemicals, Resins and Pigments

Powders and process liquids

Safety screening and grading of synthetic resins, coating powders, pigments and dyes, fertiliser, soap and rubber chemicals, and of process liquids that must be free of lumps and gel.

Ceramics and Minerals

Sand, clay slip, glaze, glass

Grading of silica sand and glass material, and screening of clay slip and glaze before use.

Recycling and Waste Water

Waste oils and process water

Removal of coarse solids from waste oils, recycling water and waste water before they are treated or reused.

Other Duties

When a Round Separator Is the Right Choice

  • Dry powders or granules that must be split by particle size, or freed of lumps and foreign matter.
  • Liquids and slurries that carry coarse solids, such as fibre, lumps or debris, which must come out before the next step.
  • Several fractions from one machine: up to four decks give five products in one pass.
  • Little floor space and continuous work: the feed comes in at the top, the products leave at the side.
  • Easy screen changes: open the clamp rings, lift the frame, and change the screen.

When Another Machine Is Better

  • Large tonnages of coarse bulk material: a linear (rectangular) vibrating screen.
  • Fine solids that must come out of a liquid as a dry cake: a pressure leaf filter or a filter press.
  • Only a trace of fine solids in a clean liquid: a bag or cartridge filter, or a strainer.

For large tonnages see the AlphaScreen linear separator; for fine solids in oil, the LEAKPROOF pressure leaf filter.

Our delivery records include more than 650 AlphaScreen separators, with screens and spares, for palm oil mills in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Papua New Guinea, as well as kernel crushing plants, sugar mills and food and chemical plants.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a round vibrating separator used for?

For sorting dry powders and granules by particle size, for taking lumps and foreign matter out of a product, and for clearing liquids and slurries of coarse solids. In palm oil mills it screens the crude oil from the presses; in food, chemical, ceramic and recycling plants it grades powders, check-screens products and screens process liquids.

How do I choose the size and the number of decks?

By the flow, the cuts you need and the material. The number of fractions sets the number of decks (one deck gives two products, four decks give five), and the flow and how easily the material passes the mesh set the screen diameter. Send us the material, the flow, the particle sizes you want to separate and whether it is wet or dry, and we will size it.

What is the difference between direct and indirect drive?

On a direct-drive AlphaScreen the eccentric weights sit on the vibratory motor itself. The indirect-drive (ID) models use an off-the-shelf motor and standard bearings, which mills far from town can replace from local stock and restart the line without waiting for parts from the maker.

How is the motion adjusted for a material?

With the two eccentric weights on the motor shaft: the angle between the top and bottom weights and the number of weight plates. A small angle sends the material straight to the rim for fast screening; a larger angle gives longer spiral paths for fine or difficult material. We set them at commissioning and can change them if the material changes.

How long does a screen last, and can it be re-meshed?

It depends on the material, the mesh and how the screen is handled. High, even tension makes a screen last longer and screen more. When the mesh is worn or torn, the screen ring can be re-meshed in our works instead of buying a new screen; we have re-meshed more than 30,000 screens.

Which spares should a mill keep in stock?

A set of screens for each deck, V-clamp rings, spring and spool assemblies and the spout sleeves cover normal operation. Mills that cannot stop keep a spare screen set and send the used screens to us for re-meshing.

Can Peltech supply screens or parts for another make of separator?

Yes, for round separators of the common sizes. Our support and service team in Johor looks after Malaysia and Singapore, and our team in Jakarta looks after Indonesia, with screens and spare parts in stock across the region. Send the screen diameter, the mesh, photos of the screen ring and the frame, and the nameplate, and we will quote screens, re-meshing or parts.

Do you install and commission the separators?

Yes. Our support and service team in Johor covers Malaysia and Singapore, and our team in Jakarta covers Indonesia. They level and bolt down the machine, check the frame bolts and clamps, set the weights for the material, connect the spouts with flexible sleeves and check the motor and the motion before hand-over. Spare parts are kept in stock across the region, so replacements are close at hand.

Need a Quote or a Sizing Check?

Send us your duty, a drawing or a photo of your existing unit. A Peltech engineer will reply with options and a quotation.
